PT Sumberdaya Sewatama, kasepuhan residents, IBEKA together with Sewatama’s orange ribbon volunteers today commenced the 100 KW Micro Hydro Plant construction for residents of Kasepuhan Cipta Gelar who reside at the foot of the Halimun mountain, Sukabumi, West Java. Micro Hydro Plant is an environmentally friendly power plant that is easy to use by the local residents to electrify all households. The previously isolated residents can now rise and enhance their living standards.
The establishment of this Micro Hydro Plant is part of Sewatama’s Corporate Citizenship’s activity with the purpose of creating sustainable economic development for isolated citizens. “We would like to thank IBEKA for the trust and opportunity given by them, this is the beginning of our contribution towards isolated citizens,” said HastoKristiyono, President Director of PT Sumberdaya Sewatama
This power plant is has been ensured to be environmentally friendly, because it utilizes water potential from Ciganas river that flows along HalimunSalak Mountain National Park and is optimized to be electric power. Power produced is channeled to the locals and is used commercially for Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
“Ciganas river has a rapid water flow and maximum height of waterfall, this is one of the potentials that can be utilized to generate power as well as a solution to the need in Ciptagelar,” asserted Abah Ugi Sugriana, Chief of Kesepuhan Adat Banten Kidul.
This plant work is targeted to conclude in January 2013 and will be conducted by about 50 Sewatama Orange Ribbon Volunteers. “The scope of work will include two main things, the first one is civil repairthat involves water channel or dam repair, and the second is mechanical that involves turbine and power house repair,” said Tri Mumpuni from IBEKA foundation. Power sales income from PLN will also be optimized for local residents through their economic improvement.
