Sewatama’s Subsidiary Commences Mini Hydro Plant Construction in North Toraja

Jakarta, 25 February 2014 – PT. Sumberdaya Sewatama (IDX : SSMM), through its subsidiary, PT. Nagata Dinamika Hydro Energy Ma’dong, last Monday (24/2) officially commenced the mini hydro power plant construction in Lembang Ma’dong, Dende Piongan Napo subdistrict, North Toraja district. Construction was begun with the opening of an access road, of which first stone was placed by North Toraja’s mayor, Frederick Batti Sorring, accompanied with Director of PT. Nagata Dinamika Hydro Energy Madong, Jhon Pantouw. This activity was also complemented with prayers and ceremony together with the communities of Lembang Paku & Lembang Ma’dong, the inauguration of Ma’dong’s local clinic, support for school library and clean water infrastructure for the communities.
The mini hydro technology, which is going to be applied in Ma’dongmini hydro power plant is an environmentally friendly technology, using the swiftness of Maiting river flow that is directed at turning the 10 MW turbine. Ma’dong mini hydro power plant is projected to commence full operation in the next 2 years. This capacity is estimated to successfully fulfillPLN in handling the power deficit in the areas of TanaToraja and North Toraja districts.

Construction effort of Ma’dong mini hydro power plant is a constructive effort inviting the communities to participate in caring about the environment in a realistic way. Power production relies heavily on the turbine, whose rotation also follows water debit (river flow’s swiftness level). The community is expected to possess consciousness to participate in preserving this water debit by keeping the forests surrounding it intact.
