Boosting Competency: Sewatama Trains 14 Technicians

Upholding Sewatama’s unwavering commitment to delivering best-in-class services, PT Sumberdaya Sewatama (Sewatama) continues to strengthen its human capital. This commitment was recently reflected through a comprehensive technical and theoretical training program for 14 key technicians, held on October 28–29, 2025, in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

These fourteen technicians participated in a two-day intensive program, combining both theoretical instruction and practical application focused on dewatering pump operation. The event, titled "Basics of Orion Series Pump Maintenance," was meticulously designed to provide detailed mastery over the operation and maintenance of these critical dewatering units.

The core objective is to significantly boost the technicians' professionalism in operating and servicing equipment in strict adherence to industry standards. This elevated proficiency is paramount to delivering a tangible contribution to overall operational effectiveness across all work units, crucially supporting mining operations where efficient water management is non-negotiable.

The training, which combined theoretical and practical sessions, was conducted at two separate locations and facilitated by expert representatives from Sewatama’s dewatering pump manufacturer. The first day took place at Swiss-Belinn Balikpapan, focusing on classroom material presentations, while the second day was held at Sewatama’s Balikpapan Depot for hands-on practice. Participants gained an in-depth understanding of the dewatering system’s operation and learned how to address field challenges, including troubleshooting techniques for resolving issues that may arise during pump operation.

Participants gained in-depth understanding of the dewatering machinery's operational mechanics and strategies for handling real-world field scenarios, including detailed troubleshooting protocols for operational hitches that commonly affect mine sump dewatering.

The training materials covered various essential aspects, including service safety, bearing lubrication, shaft sealing, as well as disassembly and assembly procedures. In addition, participants received an in-depth explanation of impeller axial clearance adjustment, which plays a crucial role in maintaining pump performance efficiency and extending component lifespan.

Furthermore, participants received an exhaustive explanation of Impeller Axial Clearance Adjustment. As experts know, precise adjustment of the impeller clearance is vital for maintaining the pump's hydraulic efficiency and extending the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of the components.

Through this initiative, Sewatama reaffirms its commitment to building standardized and aligned competency levels across all technicians.
