Strengthening Skills: 177 Sewatama Operators Certified

There is one thing that often escapes the attention of those who enjoy the flow of electricity and the hum of industrial engines: the operators who ensure power plants run nonstop, day in and day out. Given their critical role, the technical and theoretical capabilities of these operators must continuously be improved. This is why 177 operators from 41 diesel power plants (PLTD) operated by Sewatama in West Kalimantan gathered in Pontianak to take part in the Competency Certification for Electrical Power Engineering in Power Generation.

The program ran for nearly an entire month, from October 27 to November 22, 2025. Notably, several participants travelled from remote locations such as Putussibau, Air Hitam Ketapang, and Tepuai, journeys that can take up to two days. Their arrival was not merely to fulfil an obligation, but to embrace the motivation to sharpen their skills and operate their respective power plants with greater proficiency.

Each batch consisted of 25 participants and was conducted over three days. The first day covered the opening session, written tests, and practical exams. On the second and third days, participants underwent direct interviews with assessors to verify the results of the written and practical tests.

The program was divided into two main sessions: theory examination  held at Wisma Dempo Pontianak, and practical assessments conducted onsite at the Siantan Diesel Power Plant, located on Jalan Khatulistiwa, Siantan Hilir, Pontianak. Learning activities were organized into seven batches. Over the course of three days per batch, operators had to complete written exams, hands-on tests, and interviews. To ensure objectivity, the certification was overseen by independent assessors, with additional support from PT PLN Nusa Daya's management.

The result? Every participant was declared competent after undergoing the full series of assessments conducted by Eleska OSHA. This certification demonstrates not only that Sewatama operates power plants, but that it also invests seriously in the quality of the people who run them. Reliable electricity is not produced by machines alone—it is delivered by skilled hands whose expertise is continually refined.

With a more standardized and certified technical workforce, Sewatama is even better prepared to keep the lights on across West Kalimantan—and everywhere else the company operates in Indonesia.
